Prepping to Sail: The Year of Yes

Sailing Luna Sea sailing blog
Andy, Lee and Mark - doing what they do best.
This year, as we finish selling off our properties and saving money to sail away, we are focusing on the life we have here.

This is our Year of Yes.

Yes to hanging out with friends.  Yes to going to birthday parties, dinners out, and back yard bonfires.

This year we are focusing on our fun life and fantastic friends here in Savannah.  Yes, we are looking forward to all of the adventures ahead - sailing away, exploring the coast of Florida, Alabama and Louisiana.  And then finding our way over to the Caribbean islands.  All of these exciting things are not so far away.  But right here, right now, we are enjoying the present moments.

We started the year off right with a boat-load of family.  And we have spent almost every weekend since then with old friends and even made a few new ones.  This past weekend we had a birthday dinner with our daughter at a fantastic local restaurant (The Florence). Then spent Sunday planning an upcoming trip to Key West with one set of friends followed by some birthday cake and drinks with other friends.

Magic Kingdom 2016  So. Many. Kids.

This weekend we both headed off to Florida - but with different friends and in different cities.  Mark headed down to Ocala for a weekend filled with mountain biking.  I headed down to Orlando for an impromptu visit to The Magic Kingdom to help a friend fulfill her bday wish to hang with Mickey. (Who knew they don't serve alcohol?!  And there are kids EVERYWHERE.)  We both said Yes to friends and making new memories.  (Unfortunately we both said Yes to a cold, as well...)

We are going to continue to focus on the present while we prepare for the future.  We have it pretty good here - and we don't want to take it for granted.  While we are not sure exactly when we are leaving, we want to make the most of the time we have.  And that means more nights out, more chats on the beach, more group paddle boarding and more quality time with anyone who wants to hang.  A year of more.  A year of being present.  And a maybe we'll throw some boat projects in here and there as well.

    1. Hahaha! We DID say yes to a front of colds. :) But it was warm and sunny weather, at least. My white Irish legs may have even gotten a bit of sun.

    1. Blah! So many germs. But it's almost Spring here, so we need to make lots of time to play in the sunshine before we both head further south! :)

  3. Love it! We are in that last year, too, and definitely focusing on appreciating the life we have right here, even as we prep. Always good to remember that grass grows green under our feet all the time. It's not always greener somewhere else. Nice post reminding us to focus on the now! And say yes as much as possible.

    1. Thanks! It's so easy to get wrapped up in plans that you forget to enjoy now. And now is pretty fantastic. :)

  4. I came home from Vegas with a cold!! Stupid germs, taking advantage of all our travels. This "saying yes" has really stuck in my head and has been echoing back to me when I try to push things off that I should do. Thanks for that!

  6. I love this post! It is so important not to let projects, planning and problems get you down... because there WILL be moments when you feel regret or hopelessness! We've all been there :) It is so wonderful to remind us to live in the moment and ENJOY this beautiful lifestyle we chose. Cheers to the Year of Yes!
