We're doing it. We started selling off our things a few weeks ago. Just small things for now - extra chairs, extra cycling gear, an extra SUP. Noticing the trend? Yes, I'll take "things we have duplicates of" for $400, Alex. All for sale. And selling! We're growing the cruising kitty one sale at a time.
*Side note: Why is it called a cruising kitty? I'm going to rename it. Something clever. Hmmm. Now to be clever...*
So anyway - we're being bombarded with the "so you guys are really doing this?!?" conversations. Yes. Really. We said we are - and we will. As long as we're enjoying ourselves, why not?
This step is the beginning of the end of land life. For now, we're keeping the large things - like our living room furniture, our beds, our dishes, etc. Even though people immediately started sending me messages to buy our big stuff. Vultures. But I sure hope those (you?) vultures are still interested when it's time to sell the condo and sell all of that big stuff. For now, we're leaving it - well, because we're using it. But our next step will be to move onto the boat. And then we're leaving the major furniture in, as well as some of the artwork, to stage the place. But eventually it will all go. You know, after we've lived on the boat for a bit and are certain that we can live in 39ft without killing each other.

How exciting!! Gosh, I have to get started doing the same. Keep that momentum going! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jackie! I wanted to get a jump on things in case it takes a while to sell it all off. But it's going pretty well so far!
DeleteA very exciting stage in your adventure! Can't wait to see what you rename the "cruising kitty" to :-) I didn't think my hubby and I could live on a 26' sailboat together without one of us throwing a mutiny, but somehow we did. Now we're moving into a 13' camper while we search for our next boat. Hmm...I wonder how that will go! Cheers- Ellen
ReplyDeleteStill not feeling clever. But I'll work on it. Good luck in the camper - I'm sure you guys will be fine. And if not, just use it for more hilarious posts on your blog. :)
DeleteSo excited for you!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, anonymous!
DeleteAlways knew you would. Whee!
ReplyDeleteWeeeeee!
DeleteI'm excited too! Its so cool to watch you starting the momentum, from the side! Probably a LOT of work up close, but welllllll worth the experiences you'll live & enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYes. Worth it. We're no strangers to getting rid of stuff - there's just so much, even though we're not your typical "buyers." Oh well - we'll get it all done eventually.
DeleteWe still remember getting rid of everything when we did the same. After a working life collecting things you thing you need you end up almost giving them away. Now we have been living aboard and cruising for the last 5 years I can tell you you don't need all that stuff, you won't want it and your lives will be fuller and more exciting than ever. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWe've been slowly downsizing for a few years, Mark, but can't wait until it's all done!
